Refresh Phoenix is a community of designers and developers working to refresh the creative, technical, and professional culture of Internet developers in the Phoenix Metropolitan area.
…SXSW Interactive Festival is ground zero for the world’s most creative web developers, designers, bloggers, wireless innovators and new media entrepreneurs.
The best thing about [the Refresh meetings] is that their are so many cool people to talk with and they all know a lot more then me.
Its (SXSW) not about the conference, its about the community, its about those you talk to, its about those you participate with, its about those who you think of being so great and after talking to them realizing they are dealing/working through the same problems you have.
Over all will I be back, yes I will. If nothing else than for the conversations that I had with people I respect and admire for their ability and work.
There’s not enough time to hang out with everyone you’d like to, and some of the best professionally oriented conversations happen outside of the panels.
I find myself still marveling at the blur of people I was fortunate enough to meet, either by putting a face to a URL or in meeting for the first time.
At the Refresh meetings the best part is the conversations you have before and after. The presentations are excellent but you just can’t beat the before and after chatting. Just like SXSW, Refresh brings together some of the most amazing web designers and developers but in a smaller scale. The Refresh meetings have presentations, SXSW has presentations. In my mind they seem very similar. It also seems like everyone (except a few) thoroughly enjoyed SXSW and will be attending again next year and I know by the constant number of people at the Refresh meetings that people are enjoying them too.
Since I didn’t go to SXSW I’m not sure, but it sure sounds like it is a lot like a Refresh meeting just a 1000 times cooler. Am I completely wrong? I don’t know, but I won’t miss it next year.
i think that your so lucky to have something like refresh to go to. i live in london in the uk and i don’t have anything like that to go to. i did attend an adobe/macromedia interactive thing about a month ago though, which was so verry cool. i was the youngest one there at only 15 but nobody thought anything of it. i might try to start a refresh thing up in my local area but it wont be for at least a year as i just dont think i have the time right now.
