On June 6th I leave. No more internet, no more design, no more blogging, no kidding.
I’ll be in Uruguay serving a mission for my church for 2 years.
I don’t know what I’ll be doing with the blog but I’ll make sure it gets updated somehow. Most of the posts will probably just be an update on how things are going for me in Uruguay. I hope you stick around.
The past year and a half have been incredible. It’s amazing how much can happen in a year. If there’s one thing I’ve learned it’s that real-life experiences will teach you a lot more then any schooling.
It will be tough getting used to a new country and a new language but the hardest thing will be setting aside the things I’ve worked so hard to build. My career, my relationships, and Random Shapes. I’ll be back at it in just 2 years but like I said, it’s amazing how much can happen in a year.
There will be one last redesign on this site before I go and maybe one for Random Shapes.
I can’t wait to go but I’m not in a hurry either. I’ll try to make the next few months a little more exciting around here. I want to get back on topic and start some good discussions before I leave.

Matt,
Thanks for all the hard work you did on our site and good luck on your mission.
congrats. I lived in Ecuador 6mos on an exchange program and it was definitely an eye-opener and I would not trade that experience for anything. I’m assuming you’re not taking the station wagon?

Best of luck! Take care of yourself, take plenty of pictures, and have the most fun you can possibly have! I have the greatest admiration for you because you chose to give up your life temporarily to help others. You rock!

Congrats!
Sounds like a great opportunity to experience, what will you be doing while you’re there?
2 years is quite a long time… amazing commitment.
Good luck! We all look forward to your return.

[…] A few weeks before SXSW I was invited to speak on a panel at the yPulse Mashup conference. It will be on July 16th - 17th and I’m gonna miss it. I’m gonna miss the opportunity to speak and tell people about this little site I’m a part of. I’m gonna miss the experience of another conference and the chance to go to San Francisco. Anastasia, thanks for the opportunity and I’m sorry I can’t go. […]

We’re expecting a major photoblogging effort from you Matt! Whenever you can get to a stable high-speed connection that is…
Those Uruguayans are damn lucky to have you, you’ll be missed.
Good luck, get out there and take up the chance to improve your soccer skills.

Thanks guys! I really appreciate it.
Looks like blogging won’t be easy but I’ll have email and a mailing address. My dad will be posting part of my emails and maybe photos so the blog will stay updated.
I’m not gonna let a little thing like a foreign country, a new language, and no internet access stop me from blogging.

Wow.
I’m sure your life will be changed for the better. One day, I want to do something like this.
