English Notes: Communicating with Your Audience

These are notes I took in my English 101 class. And since I have really bad hand-writing this seems like a good place to keep them. You’ll see more of these later.

To understand and effectively communicate with your audience the key is to remove any differences between you and your audience. You do this by:

  • Teaching your audience what you know.
  • Explaining how you see the situation/problem in order to show your attitude.
  • Adapting the way you present your information to meet their needs.
  • You do this by:

  • Getting straight to the point. Not rambling.
  • Keeping it clear and simple. Saying what you mean to say.
  • Putting everything in order.
  • My Hands Are Free

High school is over which means life is just beginning.

The world has been holding my hand, leading me though life and it has finally let go. Now the choices are endless and my hands are free to build my life into what I want it to be. I’m asked more questions and forced to make more decisions that at one time were decided for me. What happens in my life is decided by me and me alone.

I’ve always looked forward to gruaduation and the future. Having a job, living on my own, and doing what I want to do. I felt trapped in this tiny box wanting only to get out.

But now I am out and it’s not as cool as I had once thought. Don’t get me wrong, it isn’t all bad. In fact, it’s mostly good. With this …

    We’re Different Online

I mentioned before that we should just be ourselves and not hide who we really are, but I think everyone acts a little bit differently online then we do in person. No matter how hard we try to just be ourselves we act a little different and we’re perceived differently too.

In our emails, IM conversations, and blog posts we just don’t act the same as we would in person. I don’t know what you think of me from the little you’ve picked up by reading my blog or talking to me online, but in person, I’m a quiet guy, I’m usually the one sitting in the back or walking around looking for a conversation to jump into. I don’t talk much and I prefer it that way.

The other day my sister told me that she read a few posts …

Inspirational Quote of the Month – August

Taryn Rose earned a medical degree from the University of Southern California School of Medicine and left her job as an orthopedic surgeion to pursue a career as a shoe designer.

Since then Taryn’s line of luxury shoes has changed the footwear industry and as of 2003 her company had generated nealy $20 million in sales.

This months quote comes from her.

“I feared regret more than I feared failure.”

Do what you’re passionate about so you never have to fear regret. Fearing regret is much worse than fearing failure.

    Arguments

Blog network owners like to argue. Why? Because they all have their own ideas of how a blog network should be run. They’re also very protective of the network they’ve built and why shouldn’t they be? I’m very proud of Random Shapes and every other blog network owner out there should be proud of his/her own network.

From what I’ve noticed, blog network owners are thinkers and they aren’t afraid to voice their opinions. They use their blogs to voice their opinions but if they dare mention another blog network then wars begin. Eventually peace talks are made and each network has a better understanding of each other but they still don’t agree. So why do arguements get to be so personal? It does no good. Give advice and get people thinking but don’t criticize people …
