Efficient Blog Reading

Do you use RSS feeds or do you even know what an RSS feed is? If you don’t know what an RSS feed is then you should read the article “What the Heck is RSS?” by Copyblogger right now. For the rest of you, keep reading… please.

Daniel Miessler wrote a great post the other day on the topic of efficient blog reading. I really enjoyed it probably because I think I’m already doing many of the things he suggested and because it is so simple.

1. Open your RSS reader.
2. Go through your feeds and either read each item right in the reader or open it separately (in a browser tab).
3. When you’ve gone through all your feeds, close your reader.
4. Go to your browser and start from the left-most tab. Read each item, focusing on the core …

I Sleep In Class (Sometimes)

Don’t you hate it when you’re trying to stay awake in class but everything is just way too boring for you to even think about keeping your eyes open.

Yesterday I feel asleep while taking a test. Twice. The first time I did that head bobbing thing. I wasn’t falling over to the side. Instead, my head slowly sank closer and closer to the desk until my nose was about an inch away from the words on the paper in front of me. I finally came to and did that embarrassing twitch people make when they wake up too fast. The pencil in my limp hand had made a huge scribble across my answer sheet and I tried to work on the next question.

When I fell asleep the second time I only had a couple of questions left and I still …

Bring on the Paper

Don’t worry, this time it’s not about the TPT but it looks a lot like it.

The brilliant guys at Blue Flavor have converted to paper. After months of testing out different time tracking methods the Blue Flavor team found that the best way to track their time spent on projects is to use paper. Online applications are clever and convenient but I think the Blue Flavor team would agree with me that online apps have a long way to go and too many problems.

Blue Flavor brought up a great point:

“We realized if we used paper, we can transfer that information into whatever tool we want, past, present or future, a non-destructible format if you will. Also, it’s ultra-portable, fits between the screen and keyboard of our Powerbooks when we head out, and it’s a handy …

Task Management Tracker, Day 40

I should have written this on day 30 because that sounds better but I forgot. I should also apologize to Dave because in all my titles I’ve been calling it the Task Management Tracker when it is really called the Task Progress Tracker. Sorry Dave!

Things have beeen quite hectic for me lately with the funeral, a new site I need to finish, the added homework from missing 3 days of school, and another project I’m working on. During these busier times I am even more grateful for the TPT. I’m pretty good at motivating myself forward but it’s always nice to have an extra reminder. It also helps me keep track of everything I need to do. Sometimes I’ll have so much stuff I need to do that I’ll forget something. This is partly my …

The Rudder of the Year

The first hour is the rudder of the day. It steers the rest of your day in the direction you want it to go. If the first hour of your day is lazy, the rest of the day will be lazy. On the other hand, if the first hour of your day is productive, the rest of your day will be productive. Steve Pavlina said, “if I strive to make that first hour optimally productive, the rest of the day tends to follow suit.” Starting your day focused and motivated will undoubtedly lead to a more beneficial and more enjoyable day.

I’ve set a few goals for myself this year that I want to accomplish. Some will be harder than others and all of them will take some degree of motivation to finish. In order to complete all of …
