Taryn Rose earned a medical degree from the University of Southern California School of Medicine and left her job as an orthopedic surgeion to pursue a career as a shoe designer.
Since then Taryn’s line of luxury shoes has changed the footwear industry and as of 2003 her company had generated nealy $20 million in sales.
This months quote comes from her.
“I feared regret more than I feared failure.”
Do what you’re passionate about so you never have to fear regret. Fearing regret is much worse than fearing failure.
Blog network owners like to argue. Why? Because they all have their own ideas of how a blog network should be run. They’re also very protective of the network they’ve built and why shouldn’t they be? I’m very proud of Random Shapes and every other blog network owner out there should be proud of his/her own network.
From what I’ve noticed, blog network owners are thinkers and they aren’t afraid to voice their opinions. They use their blogs to voice their opinions but if they dare mention another blog network then wars begin. Creating a website isn’t that hard. I know someone who knows very little HTML, very little CSS, doesn’t know how to use Dreamweaver, Fireworks, or Photoshop but has a profitable web design company with 3 employees and has created over 100 websites. That’s amazing.
Her sites all use tables, the design isn’t great, her content management system is a mess, and she works a million hours a week but she knows how to promote her company. And that’s what makes all the difference.
Moral of the story: Learn how to promote yourself and you’ll get business no matter how good you are.

Since I’ve never been to SXSW I’m a little unsure of what hotel to stay at and how I should get there. Of you Refresh Phoenix people who’s going? I know James is.
